Broken waterline forces library, education center closures

A water pipe that erupted during the evening of May 6 caused damage to the post library and loss of power at the education center and library.

An overhead water line above the upstairs library offices gave way and caused part of the roof to collapse. The water ran from the upstairs into the main library hall as well as the children’s area. The children’s area received the most concentration of water from the broken waterline.

The library and education center, which are collocated, were closed and garrison officials immediately began to establish alternate locations to hold college courses, provide testing and continue with education counseling and out processing services. An alternate location for people to take online college exams was established at the Digital Training Facility.

Electrical power was reestablished the next day at the education center and some limited services returned. All testing that was scheduled at the alternate locations continued as scheduled to avoid further inconvenience to customers.

The library continued to receive items including books or movies that had been checked out by customers but no new items could be checked out. An alternate computer lab was established at the interim Warrior Zone next to the Java Cafe, but the children’s section at the library had to close.
