Berlin Airlift: This month 70 years ago

In August 1948:

Two months into the Berlin Airlift, eight Labor Service Companies are now working on the Air Operation. The Lithuanian, Polish and German labor service companies, a total of 2,400 men, were assigned to “Operation Vittles,” working on railhead and airport loading, as well as unloading assignments at Rhine Main Air Base and Wiesbaden Air Base.
