In celebration of American Education Week, the Wiesbaden Army Education Center hosted its second annual Graduation Recognition Ceremony Nov. 16 awarding college degrees to twelve Soldiers and civilians representing nine unique and prestigious universities.

Key note speaker, U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden Commander Col. Todd J. Fish congratulated the graduates and reminded them of the importance of mentoring those they supervise, or will come to supervise in the future.
The degrees earned at the graduation ranged from an Associate’s through a Doctorate of Philosophy.

Graduate students also shared inspiring thoughts about their accomplishments. While pursuing a degree takes perseverance, “the efforts and dedication are worthwhile and rewarding,” said Staff Sgt. Jordan Booker during his remarks.

Two members of the Wiesbaden Army Education Center family also graduated. Katerina Ramirez Cubas with the University of Maryland University College-Europe earned an Associate of Science and Megan McReynolds with the University of Oklahoma graduated with a Master of Human Relations. The Wiesbaden High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Scott McGlynn, supported the ceremony with live music throughout, showcasing the band’s talents and professionalism.

While the graduation ceremony was a major event, the Education Center also sponsored other American Education Week activities to include an “Early Bird” kick-off trivia night with the USO and Family and MWR, and a Testing Marathon at the National Testing Center here. During the marathon testing event, students were able to show up without pre-registering and attempt as many CLEP and DANTES exams as they desired.

The four contracted schools, Central Texas College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University University of Maryland University College-Europe, and the University of Oklahoma hosted “Nacho Average Student,” an appreciation day where all students were invited to drop by for hot nachos and a chance to beat the rush to sign up for next semester’s classes.

Next year’s graduation ceremony is scheduled to take place Nov. 15, 2017. The Education Center welcomes anyone in the Wiesbaden community who has or will graduate in 2017 to attend. Pre-registration will begin October 2017 at the Education Center.
