Celebrating Edith Piaf
Wiesbaden is organizing a special concert in honor of Paris’ sweetheart on what would have been her 100th birthday. Explore the tragic yet glamorous world of Edith Piaf at the Velvets Theater Nov. 20 as Petra Bauss,
who studied at the École de la Chansons in France, will interpret and sing her most famous Chanons to show the love, triumph and her childhood in the Parisian gutter. Alexandre Bytchkov will accompany her on his accordion. Admission is €19. Visit www.wiesbaden.de for more info in German.

“Russian Soul” Concert
The RheinMain Symphonic Orchestra is continuing its concert series at the Kaisersaal (Emperor’s Hall) in Sonnenberg. This time, the musical journey includes Glinka’s famous Ruslan overture, Dvořák’s serenade for strings and Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony. The concert takes place Saturday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Kaisersaal, König-Adolf-Str. 6, 65191 Wiesbaden-Sonnenberg. Tickets for €15 at the Wiesbaden tourist info, Tourist-Information, or at the door.

Wiesbaden Christmas market
Wiesbaden’s Twinkling Star Christmas Market, named after the brightly lit giant lilies that overlook it, will run Nov. 24 to Dec. 23. Located in downtown Wiesbaden on the Schlossplatz
(across from the Rathaus), the market will have over 130 stalls selling food, drinks, decorations and gifts. The market opens Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. with a special ceremony, but usually opens at 10:30 a.m. (or noon on Sundays) and closes at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday). There will be a variety of musical and theatrical performances in the square for the whole month the market is open. Ice skating rink
Nearby the Hessian State Theatre, the “Eiszeit” ice skating rink operates daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The entrance fee for children up to 12 is €3.50, and adult tickets is €4.50. Visitors should also take a moment to stop into the Kurhaus Casino, where a giant Christmas tree made out of 2,000 winter roses stands.
