Bad Dürkheim Wine Fest

Visit the world’s biggest wine festival with Wiesbaden Outdoor Recreation, Sept. 10. The Bad Dürkheim winefest is a traditional German Volksfest and includes rides, amusements, wine tasting and more. Eltville Wine Tour


Enjoy a guided walking tour through the Old Town of Eltville with a wine tasting of three varieties of premium wines (Prädikatsweine) from Eltville wineries, Sept. 18 at 5:30 p.m. Discover the quaint cobblestone alleys and squares while listening to stories about the oldest town in the Rheingau. Heidelberg castle lighting

Don’t miss the unforgettable Heidelberg Schlossbeleuchtung or castle lighting and fireworks display Sept. 3. This event is held three times every summer in memory of the three times the castle went up in flames (1689, 1693 and 1764). After the castle “burning” enjoy a 15-minute fireworks display launched from the Old Bridge.

Hochheim’s Wine Museum

Learn the art of planting and growing wine in both historic and modern times at the Hochheim am Main Winegrowing Museum. The museum is open weekends from 3 to 5 p.m. and the last Thursday of every month from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission cost €2 per person. Group tours in English available (minimum 10 people) including a tasting of the Hochheim’s winequeen-coronation wine. Floating Wine Tasting

Wine tastings and a boat tour along the romantic Rhein River, well, what more could you ask for? Rüdesheim’s Floating Wine Tasting features four wines from local winery, Dr.Nägler, a glass to keep as a souvenir and delicious soft pretzels. Tour starts at Brücke 12. Tickets cost €19 per person. Open monuments in Idstein

Visit all the monuments in Idstein, including the Witches’ tower, the Palace area and many others. Listen to tour guides and enjoy Idstein’s picturesque old town. Event begins at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 with a symphony concert in the Civic Center. More information: www. idstein.de.

Rhine in Flames

Rhine in Flames is a firework spectacular that takes place Sept. 10 in Oberwesel and Sept. 17 in St. Goar, both about an hour away, with a route that follows the Rhein the entire way along some of the most scenic stretches of the river. Illuminated riverboats beneath mesmerizing patterns of light in the sky creates a romantic and unforgettable experience for the whole family. Traditional wine festivals or similar celebrations are located near each starting point, with stands of specialty German food and local drink. Rhein River Lights offers boats cruises down the most picturesque parts of the Rhein, with views of Medieval castles and monasteries.
